Cersei Lannister

Game of Thrones

I really didn’t have much intention of making a Game of Thrones costume, but I had about a 2 week stretch for Dragoncon 2018 to fill and decided to just do it. Cersei was a character who became more understandable in the books, and in season 3, she shows a rare glimpse of sorrow and humanity, I wanted to convey that.
Despite waiting nearly a year to get it photographed, I’m really happy to have invested the time to make it, and shoot it on the Chicago shoreline with Infinity Spiral Photography and Rynn Cosplay to emulate the scene of King’s Landing.

The dress was patterned using Simplicity 1487, the outside made from dupioni silk and lined with polyester for the sleeves. Due to deadlines I had to be creative with the 7 embroidered birds: outline and blue base was designed in embroidery software and done on my embroidery machine. The remaining details and hundreds of hours of beading, embroidery and goldwork were done by hand over the course of a couple of weeks, with the rest done slowly over several months in downtime.
The wig is a lacefront from Amazon, I sewed in extra wefts for volume and length to get close to her incredibly voluminous mop of braids.
