Cersei Lannister

Game of Thrones (season 3)

Thoughts:

I really didn’t have much intention of making a Game of Thrones costume, but I had about a 2 week stretch for DragonCon 2018 to fill and decided to just do it. Cersei was a character who began to become more human in the books, and in season 3, she shows a rare glimpse of sorrow and humanity, I wanted to convey that. This was made within a very tight time-frame originally for Dragoncon, about 2 weeks while moving apartments so I had to do the bare minimum on it on the first pass. I then revisited it over the course of a year, adding more embroidery, beading and bird details (though I still feel I’ll never really be done!)

Construction notes:

The dress was patterned using Simplicity 1487, the outside made from dupioni silk and lined with polyester for the sleeves. Due to deadlines I had to be creative with the 7 embroidered birds: outline and blue base was designed in embroidery software and done on my embroidery machine. The remaining detailsĀ and hundreds of hours of beading, embroidery and goldwork were done by hand, with the rest done slowly over several months in downtime.
The wig is a lace front from Amazon, I sewed in extra wefts for volume and length to get close to her incredibly voluminous mop of braids.
